KIDS PAINT THE TOWN- A project where everyone makes a difference presents ~ Spring Into Life!
Many of you may remember the art displayed in our windows last year (see photo below) from a wonderful program founded by Jennifer Rogers called Kids Paint the Town. Well, she is back, teaming up with The Museum of Children's Art (MOCHA) for an even larger upcoming display in April.
Her website is full of info and pictures from past exhibits. Jennifer has an abundance of energy and drive and we wish her continued success with this program.

January 7, 2008 What do I own, is it Valuable?
This is a picture of a 9 x 12 rug that belonged to my grandmother. It’ has numerous tears similar to the one in this picture, but I don’t know anything about the rug or if it is valuable. The mfg of the rug was Hale Bros. and as far as I can tell the name of the rug is "Cabrizan". It is at least 75 yrs old. Allison in CA
Hi Allison,
Your rug is machine made. The style is actually "Tabrizian." There is a town in Iran (formerly Persia) named Tabriz. It produced some of the finest Persian rugs, and this is a machine made copy of such. Hale Brothers was a department store in SF. The rug would have been manufactured for Hale Brothers, not by them.
Unfortunately, your rug has little value. Repairing a machine made rug with damage this extensive would far outweigh its worth.
"I have been offered a rug from a private person. She dosen’t know which area or country it comes from, or even if its hand woven or a natural dye coulors rug. What can you tell me about this rug, only out of this information and pictures?" Fredrik, Norway
Fredrik,
Without a tag, it's hard to say where it was made, but my guess would be Belgium as it exported huge numbers of this type rug. It is machine made, not hand woven. There is moth damage at the fringe end, which is evidenced by the small areas of missing nap, so check the rug thoroughly to confirm they are no longer present.
